The Sawmill Canyon Ranch consists of approximately 10,902 deeded acres and 9,152 BLM lease acres, for a total of 20,054 acres, or 31.3 sections. Wildlife is abundant on this scenic and diverse ranch. Trophy elk, mule deer, antelope, black bear, and mountain lion are found on this property, along with many small game animals. Hunting Perhaps the greatest asset of the Sawmill Ranch is its wildlife resource. The ranch is ideally located on the south end of the Magdalena Mountains, providing excellent habitat for such game species as mule deer, black bear, Rocky Mountain elk, mountain Lion, antelope, Scaled quail, and Mourning dove. The ranch is also either permanent home or part-time home to an array of non-game species found in the transitional mountain ranges of New Mexico. Topography The elevation varies from about 5200' on the south end to over 8000' on the west and north portions. The topography varies from grassy plains breaking into moderate pinon/juniper studded canyons, to deep, rugged canyons and high, mountainous type terrain. Water Water is plentiful. The majority of the ranch is watered by a very strong spring that is located just above the north boundary on Forest Service property.
